The Laurentian Celebration Recap

St. Lawrence University hosted The Laurentian Celebration June 14 - 17, 2021!

Over 900 Laurentians from around the world participated in The Laurentian Celebration, a combined event highlighting Reunion 2020 and 2021 and the impact of The Campaign for Every Laurentian.  During the event, it was shared that, behind over 20,000 donors, The Campaign for Every Laurentian had not only met, but exceeded its ambitious goal and stood at $230 million!

Lunch 'n Learn #1 Featuring Dr. Serge Onyper

Growing the University’s endowment was one of the primary goals of The Campaign for Every Laurentian, as it provides critical resources to students and faculty for dynamic research. This is evident in the work of Associate Professor Dr. Serge Onyper, who holds the endowed James R. Wallace Professorship in Psychology. Listen to Dr. Onyper as he discusses his timely research about video conferencing and its effects on sleep patterns.

Lunch 'n Learn #2: Here We Go Saints!

The Saints hockey teams have called Appleton Arena home for decades. Thanks to the generosity of the Laurentian Community throughout The Campaign for Every Laurentian, the Arena was revitalized and rejuvenated in 2020 while preserving what made the barn special. This session featured the Charles W. Appleton II head men’s hockey coach Brent Brekke and his staff, winners of the 2021 ECAC Hockey Tournament, and head field hockey coach and associate athletic director Fran Grembowicz and head men's lacrosse coach Mike Mahoney '93, P'22, '24, both coaches of Division III programs that will be impacted by the upcoming Phase II of the Appleton project.

Lunch 'n Learn #3: The SLU Connect Program

St. Lawrence University boasts the nationally-ranked no. 3 alumni network, built on the power of connections between students and alumni across generations. The SLU Connect program has expanded the reach for students by bringing them to various hubs of Laurentians across the country. But during the pandemic, a pivot to virtual programming opened new, exciting doors as well. Learn about this resilient program and its future in this discussion featuring SLU Connect students, moderated by Beth Bullock Larrabee ’97, M’06, P’20, ’22, Associate Director of the Center for Career Excellence.

Lunch 'n Learn #4: HEOP Works!

The Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program has transformed and enriched the St. Lawrence University community for over 50 years and produced graduates who embody the “HEOP Works!” motto today. Listen to Bill Short P’09, ’12, St. Lawrence’s current HEOP Director, and Tony Ross ’75, M’78, the inaugural HEOP Director at the University, as they discussed the origins of the program at St. Lawrence and how it has evolved over the years. Current HEOP students also joined the conversation and reflected on the program today.

Lunch 'n Learn #5: Public Health and the Liberal Arts

Public Health is big. It’s global, and local. It’s access to healthcare and education, and both vaccines and healthy food.  It’s changing the world to prevent diseases from ever occurring.  And thanks to The Campaign for Every Laurentian, public health is a part of St. Lawrence.  Learn more about the newly-establish Public Health major and its impact on our students through a panel moderated by Dr. Ernesto Moralez, Assistant Professor of Public Health and Co-Coordinator of the Public Health Minor.

The G. Atwood Manley Society Virtual Tea Time

Every Laurentian was welcome to join members of the G. Atwood Manley Society for this virtual tea time.  Put the kettle on and hear from Alan E. '70 and Sue Gemberling Olszewski '70 and David C. ’71 and Nicole Areson, our respective Manley Achievement Award recipients, on why they have included their alma mater in their estate plans, as well as ruminations on St. Lawrence past and present.
